چکیده

A word is quasiperiodic if it can be obtained by concatenations and overlaps of a smaller word, called a quasiperiod. Based on links between quasiperiods, right special factors and square factors, we introduce a method to determine the set of quasiperiods of a given right infinite word. Then we study the structure of the sets of quasiperiods of right infinite words and, using our method, we provide examples of right infinite words with extremal sets of quasiperiods (no quasiperiod is quasiperiodic, all quasiperiods except one are quasiperiodic, . . . ). Our method is also used to provide a short proof of a recent characterization of quasiperiods of the Fibonacci word. Finally we extend this result to a new characterization of standard Sturmian words using a property of their sets of quasiperiods. 1998 ACM Subject Classification F.4.0 Mathematical logic and formal languages, G.2.1 Combinatorics

Quasiperiods of biinfinite Sturmian words

We study the notion of quasiperiodicity, in the sense of “coverability”, for biinfinite words. All previous work about quasiperiodicity focused on right infinite words, but the passage to the biinfinite case could help to prove stronger results about quasiperiods of Sturmian words. We demonstrate this by showing that all biinfinite Sturmian words have infinitely many quasiperiods, which is not ...

Comparison of Coverability and Multi-Scale Coverability in One and Two Dimensions

A word is quasiperiodic (or coverable) if it can be covered with occurrences of another finite word, called its quasiperiod. A word is multi-scale quasiperiodic (or multi-scale coverable) if it has infinitely many different quasiperiods. These notions were previously studied in the domains of text algorithms and combinatorics of right infinite words. We extend them to infinite pictures (two-dim...

Quasiperiods, Subword Complexity and the Smallest Pisot Number

A quasiperiod of a finite or infinite string/word is a word whose occurrences cover every part of the string. A word or an infinite string is referred to as quasiperiodic if it has a quasiperiod. It is obvious that a quasiperiodic infinite string cannot have every word as a subword (factor). Therefore, the question arises how large the set of subwords of a quasiperiodic infinite string can be [...

Quasiperiodic and Lyndon episturmian words

Recently the second two authors characterized quasiperiodic Sturmian words, proving that a Sturmian word is non-quasiperiodic if and only if it is an infinite Lyndon word. Here we extend this study to episturmian words (a natural generalization of Sturmian words) by describing all the quasiperiods of an episturmian word, which yields a characterization of quasiperiodic episturmian words in term...

Generated topology on infinite sets by ultrafilters

Let $X$ be an infinite set, equipped with a topology $tau$. In this paper we studied the relationship between $tau$, and ultrafilters on $X$. We can discovered, among other thing, some relations of the Robinson's compactness theorem, continuity and the separation axioms. It is important also, aspects of communication between mathematical concepts.
